VIDEOCONTEST

ZIPPYVOTE ONLINE VIDEO CONTEST

WE ARE LOOKING FOR A VIDEO OF YOU AT A COMEDY SHOW IN FRONT OF A LIVE AUDIENCE BEFORE ALL OF THIS SHIT WENT DOWN

The World Series of Comedy has teamed up with ZippyVote to produce online video contests. Each contest will have spots for 100 comics. Winners will be chosen the same way winners are chosen at our live events: A combination of audience votes and industry votes. Comic's videos will be watched by hundreds of audience members, comedy club owners, and bookers.  There will also be cash prizes for the top 3 comics. Plus, the comic who gets the most audience votes and is not in the top 3 will win a cash prize.

We know right now everyone in this business is hurting and could use some relief. We want to help comics win cash and, more importantly, be seen by industry which in turn could get them work when this is all over. As an alternative to asking comics for a registration fee, we are inviting each comic to set up a profile on our crowdfunding platform and raise $30. This money will be used for the cash prizes for the winners and the top audience vote winner, to pay industry to judge the shows and vote (they also need money right now, too), and The World Series of Comedy will also take a fee. For a complete breakdown of the cash, please check out the Money Breakdown section below.

CONTESTFORMAT

There will be 5 Round One shows. These shows will be called Show 1, Show 2, Show 3, Show 4, and Show 5. The finals will be called Show 6.

Each of the Round One shows will have 20 comics, and each comic’s video will play for 3 minutes. Audience members and industry will not be able to vote until after the video has played for 3 minutes. Total time of the show is 60 minutes. Top 2 comics will move to Show 6, the finals.

Show 6, the finals, will have 12 comics: The Top 2 comics from each of the Round One shows, plus the Top 2 3rd Place comics from the Round One show according to the judges’ scores. Each comic’s video will play for 5 minutes. Audience members and industry will not be able to vote until after the video has played for 5 minutes. Total time of the show is 60 minutes.

Comics must use different material in each round of the contest. It can be the same video, just a different set of jokes. Comics can set where the video starts to play on their YouTube Channel.

CONTESTJUDGING

There will be at least three judges watching each show. Some shows may have more judges watching. These judges are the comedy bookers who may be giving you work, so if more than the three judges scheduled to judge want to watch and judge, we will let them. This is good for you as you will be seen by more bookers and may get work even if you don’t place. Each category described below is worth up to 10 points. The maximum points each contestant can score from each judge is 30.

Judges will be looking at three categories:

Originality: Have we heard these jokes before from another comic? An email? On the street? Did you use “easy” jokes such as sex, bowel movements, or the objects inside your nose? Were you able to be funny without being too dirty?

Stage Presence: Did you seem comfortable on stage? Did you shake, stutter, or just blank out? Did you talk to the entire room? Did you look down or look up too much?

Overall: Your entire performance as a whole.

AUDIENCEVOTING

The audience will be voting on each comic’s video performance on a scale from 1 to 5. They will NOT be judging the comics against each other, so they could give each comic 5 points if they wanted to. The comic with the largest number will have 5 points added to the judges’ scores, 2nd Place – 4 points, 3rd Place – 3 points, 4th Place – 2 points, and 5th Place – 1 point. More weight is given to the judges’ scores than the audience’s scores for a better balance to the competition.

PRIZEBREAKDOWN

The goal for each video contest is to raise $3000.
